Magnolia Love
Just after my grandmother died, almost thirty years ago, the magnolias bloomed in an incredible glory.
There was a tree right outside the living room where I was staying, and I remember staring out into the sudden sea of pale white, soft pink flowers, wondering why I had never noticed them in this way before.
Each year, for a short, glorious moment, the flowers appear in their quiet, magnificent beauty… and then they’re gone again, blending in with the greenery. Sometimes I pass one remembering what I saw in the spring and wonder how something so extraordinary can become almost invisible again.
On a hot summer day last year, I visited a garden in which stood a beautiful magnolia tree.
The magnolia wasn’t in bloom then. She was simply there, offering shade in a wide circle.
A place to lie in the hammock.
To journal.
To share.
To do nothing.
I remember sitting beneath her, letting go and thinking: this is exactly what I need.
A few months later, I was asked if I wanted to help look after this very garden.
This small, beautiful space with a cabin… and this tree.
It felt like something magical had quietly slipped into my life, just around the corner from my home.
Since then, the magnolia has been visiting me.
In dreams, in images, in subtle callings.
All this inspired me to create Under the Magnolia Tree — a space that offers inspirations, insights, weavings and channelings from sitting under the Magnolia tree.
It features present moment reflections, insights, and transmissions that arise when I sit under the tree, or when I receive through her from elsewhere. You can find all sharings on the Under the Magnolia Tree page.
About magnolia symbolism: I don’t want to define her meaning and symbolism too much, for I believe she will share with us what wants to come through over the year. But here is just a bit to root in:
Magnolias embody inner strength, personal growth, and authenticity.
They flower even after harsh conditions. They remind us of resilience, quiet rebirth, and of beauty that is always there, even when it’s not immediately apparent.
And we can call to us her potent, graceful, quiet strength and magnificent flower at any time.
And let her remind us that her strength, resilience, gracefulness and magnificence lives in you too.
In deep gratitude, Magnolia.
