On Conditioning, Patterning and Systems — And How We Can Support Ourselves to Notice Them & Shift Out of Them

Welcome,
In this series, I share a few unscripted, present-moment video reflections that explore conditioned patterns and how our inner system responds when we begin to speak more from our truth, and how even small shifts can bring old patterns, inner voices, or protective responses to the surface — and what we can do about that.
I share from my own experience and reflect on what can happen based on my own inner journey, weaving in my background understanding as we go along. My hope is that you’ll receive many small insights, micro-moments of support and feel seen on your journey, knowing you are not alone in whatever your version of this may be.
Rather than approaching this theme all at once, I’ll be adding reflections and practical entry points in bite-size pieces over time.
In the first video, I share a story that really helped me get clear on patterning and conditioning. I share an encounter I had with a ballet dancer.
The blog article I reference in the video is called ‘On Conditioned Patterns: What is really longing to be expressed & flow in you’ and lives in my main blog, Opening to the Field. It also dives deeper into this lived encounter and helps make these patterns more visible and easier to recognise in yourself.
The second video speaks to what can arise when we begin to express ourselves more openly — the critical voices, the contraction, or what can feel like shame or self-doubt. I also share a few simple ways to support your system in those moments, so you’re not left navigating that alone.
Here is what happened for me right after I recorded the first video, and what I did about it.
Feeling these feelings or hearing these critical inner voices isn’t a sign that something is going wrong. Often, it’s a sign that you’re moving closer to something more true, and your system is responding in the only way it has learned to stay safe.
For more about steps you can take to support yourself as you share your work or message, you might enjoy my Soulpreneur Corner blog post called ‘Writing to the Void’.
In it I share more about the inner dynamics and projections that may arise when you write (or share), and many small things you can do to support your nervous system. It also dives deeper into what’s happening underneath — the projections, inner voices, and patterns that can get activated when we share and become visible.
In the third video, I come back to the idea of patterns, how we can start to notice them more clearly and what it means to have choice around them. When patterns become visible, we can begin to relate to them differently and help our system feel safe stepping into new ways of being and doing. I also share why it can be important to do this one small step at a time.
In the fourth video, I share more about the different aspects of inner work we can do around patterns that are keeping us stuck, and why it is so important to create space for ourselves and our inner journey.
While I share about what we can do to help ourselves, remember that if what you are feeling is overwhelming, it is important to get support from a coach or therapist.
